New golfing season - New club officers 

Following last Thursdays AGM I would like to congratulate our Captain for 2017, Cyril Rafferty, our President for 2017-18, Hugh O'Neill and our Honorary Secretary Tony McCann on their appointments. 

We have a long and interesting year ahead of us but I am sure with these three men at the helm any issues that arise will be met head-on and dealt with efficiently and appropriately but most of all I would like to wish them well in their respective roles and if I can help them along the way, all the better. 


 

It's hard to believe, particularly given the recent weather, but in 4 weeks time we will be back in full swing for the season and winter golf will once again seem a distant memory. Bearing that in mind I would like to inform you all that I have had new stock arriving daily over the past couple of weeks and many of you will have noticed new hardware glistening on the shelves such as TaylorMade's M1 and M2 drivers alongside Titleist's new 917 and the new Cobra F7 offerings. 

Other products you will see over the coming weeks are the new Callaway Epic range as used by our own Rory McIlroy and clothing ranges from Oscar Jacobson, FootJoy and Puma.




Are golfers fore-going safety?

It's time for a rant. From our very first adventures onto a golf course we're encouraged, not demanded, to scream 'fore' if our ball is going off line. We've all had to do it, both for ourselves and playing partners, when we see a miss-hit flying towards another golfer on the course who we're frantically hoping would just move out of the way.

So why is it that when the tour pros skew one left or right, where hundreds of spectators are lined up along the edge of the rough, do they not see the importance of shouting 'fore'? Take Pat Perez for example. On Sunday he saw a stray tee shot clatter into the head of a spectator on the 12th, before firing another loose drive into the leg of another spectator on the 15th. And guess what - no shout of 'fore' on either occasion.

Perez isn't in the minority either, it happens far too often. Shane Lowry's tweet (seen above) hits the nail on the head. Let's hope more players follow his mindset.
