One person who certainly is is Phil Mickelson. Watching Lefty as the (relatively) young lad on the Champions Tour last week may have felt odd, but the 50-year-old certainly wasn’t fazed. We can all take solace in the fact a man with a half-century behind him could knock it round in -22.

Pairing you with your perfect irons

We mentioned last week that you may want one or two hybrids to replace your longer irons because they’re more forgiving. This week, we’re putting irons under the microscope. Ask yourself: How do they slot into my full set of clubs?

You need to be sure that there are no big gaps between your hybrids and irons, as well as your irons and wedges. You want a smooth transition through your bag, with clubs that allow you to find any yardage or type of shot that may be required.
